Deidara has slanted blue eyes and very long blond hair which he wears drawn into a half ponytail with the rest hanging down freely. The bang hanging over his left eye conceals his eye scope signifying that is a long-range fighter. After casting the Iwagakure Kinjutsu on himself, he develops a mouth on both of his palms, and on the left side of his chest he had a large, stitched-up mouth. He uses this kinjutsu to supplement his explosive chakra to his clay. Before joining Akatsuki, Deidara wore a blue and grey kimono jacket with a mesh undershirt inside and khaki pants with sandals and a belt-like pouch with a chain. His hair was also tied into a lower ponytail and an Iwa forehead protector. After joining Akatsuki, he wears their signature cloak, navy blue pants with matching shinobi sandals, and an Akatsuki ring on his right index finger, which bears the kanji for "blue or green" (青, ao) and is teal in colour.
Deidara considers himself an artist and views his jutsu involving explosions are works of art. Deidara believes art is meant to last a single moment, which often causes arguments with fellow Akatsuki member Sasori. Though Deidara seems to respect Sasori's artistic abilities by referring to him as "Master Sasori". He is also very easily annoyed by Tobi, the newest Akatsuki member. In Rock Lee's Springtime of youth, he is very comical.
Deidara is a powerful and capable S-rank missing-nin whose abilities earned him recognition within Akatsuki.
Deidara possesses special mouths in the palms of his hands and on the left side of his chest which allows him to infuse his explosive chakra into his clay that detonates with the command Katsu (喝) and the seal. This clay is moulded into a wide variety of shapes and forms, growing to large sizes when infused with chakra and can be controlled at will.
Naruto SD: Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden
Autumn Shinobi Safety
While Deidara and his partner Tobi are off travelling, he finds a magazine from Konohagakure which gives him an idea to infiltrate the village. As they are about to enter the village, they run into Rock Lee and his team, who are monitoring the travelling speed of passing shinobi. The two are then put through an inspection. After becoming tired of the inspection process, Deidara tries to blow them up with his Explosive Clay, however, Lee mistakes them for the actors that were supposed to perform at Konoha's Autumn Campaign. Deidara and Tobi are then sent to the stage and after seeing this as his window of opportunity, he prepared to make his attack. However, Tsunade sees they are not the actors and sends them flying. Later, the two are seen travelling injured because of Tsunade's attack.
- In the manga, Deidara first appears alongside Sasori as his partner, but in the anime, he first appears paired up with Tobi.
